Ana Elia Rocha de McGuire, Editor

While continuing to build the CarneTec franchise, Ms. McGuire also shares her meat science and technical expertise company-wide, overseeing the technical direction of the entire slate of technical articles deployed on our English, Spanish and Portuguese websites. Prior to applying her expertise to CarneTec magazine for the last 12 years, Ms. McGuire served as Quality Assurance/Operations Control Manager for two Mexican poultry processing companies; Grupo Buenaventura in Chiapas, Mexico, and Grupo Genera in Monterrey, Mexico. Ms. McGuire holds a Master’s degree in Food Science from Kansas State University and a B.S. in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Nuevo Leon State University, Monterrey, Mexico.

André Sulluchuco, Managing Editor, CarneTec

Mr. Sulluchuco manages the Carnetec online newsletter and is a regular writer for the quarterly print magazine. He is a seasoned news journalist who has reported on U.S. physics research, design and electrical engineering, as well as wireless broadband developments in Europe. He most recently served as deputy editor for a UK-based monthly magazine, where he covered the Latin American construction sector. His line of work has led him to Brazil, Mexico and the Caribbean where he wrote on the latest industry trends, technologies and services. He holds an M.A. in Social Sciences and B.A. in History, both from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Jesus Velazco, EDITOR Emeritus

Industry specialist, Dr. Velazco is Director of the Animal Products Division, Mexican operations, for H.E. Butt Grocery Co. Previously, he served for 10 years as a respected professor and researcher at the Monterrey Technical and Superior Studies Institute. He has 15 years of experience as a cattle nutrition/management consultant and 10 years of experience as a meat industry consultant. He received his Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition and Meat Science from Kansas State University and a B.A. and M.B.A. in Agronomy at the Monterrey Technical and Superior Studies Institute in Monterrey, Mexico.

Sara Aguirre, Associate Editor

Ms. Aguirre ensures the style and grammar consistency of CarneTec.com’s content. She has been a regular contributor to and has helped build the CarneTec franchise for the last 8 years. She is also currently Manager for the Sensory Department at GAMESA in Monterrey, Mexico, a company owned by PepsiCo International. She also spent two years working in a meatpacking plant in Monterrey. Aguirre holds a B.S. in Biochemical Engineering and an M.S. in Quality Control from ITESM, Mexico.

In 1993, Mr. Lefens saw a need for more targeted meat and poultry industry information and founded Marketing & Technology Group. Prior, Lefens held senior editorial and publishing positions with several other meat industry publications. Having spent nearly three decades immersed in the meat and poultry industries, Lefens is a recognized authority on industry trends and issues.

Bill McDowell, Vice President & Editorial Director

Mr. McDowell is responsible for overseeing editorial operations for several award-winning publications, including Meatingplace, CarneTec, Plate and HOTELS. Previously, he was editorial director of the Food & Beverage Group at VerticalNet and associate publisher/editor-in-chief of Chain Leader. Other editorial stints include senior editor at Advertising Age.
